Shoja and Tirthan Valley (Great Himalayan National Park) in Himachal Pradesh offer excellent bird watching for getaway seekers and serious bird watchers who like walking around. Tirthan Valley (3500 ft asl) is base point to explore Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) whereas Shoja (8500 ft asl) is where one can sight high altitude Himalayan birds. Both destinations are just 25 kms from each other and therefore offer an excellent Short break possibility for bird watchers.
The Park is home to the endangered Western Tragopan. Monal Pheasant is abundant bird in the higher forests. Raptors are also a prominent feature of the Park, with Lammergeiers, Himalayan Griffon Vultures and Golden Eagles being seen regularly. A great variety of other birds occurs (a total of 209 species), some of which reach their western limit in the Park.
